TERRA FUTURA FARM ECOVILLAGE
ASHEVILLE, NC

Terra Futura Farm is an innovative eco-village in Asheville designed around principles of sustainability, community, and ecological stewardship. Blue Earth Engineering provides stormwater and green infrastructure design to help integrate water management into the landscape rather than treating it as a separate conventional infrastructure system.

The stormwater strategy uses a distributed network of small-scale bio-infiltration practices located throughout the development. These landscape-based systems capture runoff close to where rainfall occurs, allowing water to infiltrate into the site's naturally permeable soils rather than being rapidly conveyed downstream.

This decentralized approach helps reduce runoff volume and peak flows while supporting groundwater recharge and restoring a more natural relationship between rainfall and the landscape. The practices are intentionally integrated into the site's open spaces and community design so that stormwater management becomes part of the ecological character of the development.

Blue Earth’s work at Terra Futura illustrates how green infrastructure can be incorporated into residential development from the beginning—using the hydrologic capacity of the land itself as part of the infrastructure.

The result is an approach to development in which buildings, landscapes, water, and community are considered as interconnected systems, demonstrating how thoughtful engineering can support both human needs and ecological function.
